National Apprenticeship Week Production Workshop

The objective of this workshop was to familiarize them with our various programs while enhancing their skills in mechanical and electrical assembly, teamwork, and problem-solving. The practical aspect involved the assembly of an electric scooter. 🛴

We organized 20 participants into teams of four, resulting in five teams. These teams were evaluated using a rubric that assessed their performance in teamwork, quality, safety, and other parameters relevant to real-world manufacturing. This exercise provided valuable insights into collaborative project work and allowed participants to earn scores based on their performance. Our instructor, Jean Paul Aliaga was pleased to report that most teams demonstrated exceptional teamwork, achieving high scores in the rubric evaluation.

Additionally, we introduced a competitive element, featuring an obstacle course for the electric scooters at the end of the workshop. Teams were timed as they navigated through a zigzag course with various obstacles in an open field. Notably, the top-performing team, “Avengers,” earned a remarkable score of 24 in the rubric evaluation and completed the circuit in just 53 seconds, securing first place. 🥇

The participants were a diverse group, including recent graduates, seniors, and a couple of juniors, totaling 20 individuals. This year marked a record attendance for our production workshop, underscoring its success. The event concluded with positive feedback and impressive completion times on the circuit.

Our goal for the workshop and informational session is to provide students with more insights and networking opportunities with the range of companies that offer apprenticeships. We hope this will open avenues for apprenticeship offers and potential sponsorships, leading to future employment opportunities for the next generation. We anticipate exciting developments from this talented group of 20 participants!

Apprentices Share Their Unconventional Paths to Success

The Composites IACMI Institute

“When deliberating an apprenticeship program versus college courses, Tarun Kumaravel saw his choice clearly: “If I do four years of college, that is four years of my time. Then I have to find work. Meanwhile, with an apprenticeship, it is two years, and you have both work and college at the same time.” Kumaravel is part of the Space Coast Consortium Apprenticeship Program (SCCAP), which is supported by IACMI at Eastern Florida State College, located in Cocoa, Florida.”
